Wool rugs

Our rugs are created with care and dedication, from natural high-quality materials, taking the customer’s wishes into account. Regular maintenance ensures a long lifespan, quality and character for a wool rug.

Here you will find our observations and recommendations for the dignified use and care of wool rugs:

  • Our hand- and machine-woven wool rugs made using tufting technology are suited for use in homes and public indoor spaces with lighter traffic.
  • Rugs from the POHL, MOSS and WOODY collections are made from natural wool material. We use the most highly valued New Zealand wool in the rug world. As a result of several factors acting together, it has a longer and stronger fibre than ordinary wool; therefore, yarn and rugs made from New Zealand wool are high-quality, durable and shed significantly less.
  • Wool has naturally dirt-repellent properties, so wool stays clean longer and wool rugs are easy to maintain on a daily basis.
  • Wool is a strong, durable and shape-retaining material. Therefore, wool rugs made from high-quality material are very long-lasting.
  • Wool is also a naturally flame-resistant material, which makes our rugs suitable for public spaces as well.
  • Our wool rugs have a fire resistance certificate (classification Cfl-s1).
  • In addition, the rugs act as sound absorbers both on the floor and on the wall.

NB! A NEW WOOL CARPET releases loose wool fibers. This behavior is characteristic of all wool carpets, but it is most noticeable on carpets with a dense and smooth velour surface. The release of loose wool fibers is temporary and disappears in the course of use, once all loose fibers have risen to the surface.
The quality of the carpet does not change due to the release of loose fibers. We recommend vacuuming the carpet more frequently during the first few months to remove the disturbing loose fibers.

  • Continue to vacuum the rug regularly – this effectively and gently removes dirt and loose textile fibers from the rug. Use the vacuum cleaner’s smooth, brushless nozzle.
  • The accumulation of dirt between the yarns has a damaging effect on the rug. Sand and other hard dirt that collects between the yarns are especially harmful – the rug is damaged by the mechanical friction between the yarn and the hard dirt particles.
  • Always place the rug on a dry floor. Even a newly finished floor must be completely dry before you place a rug on it. Moisture trapped under the rug can damage both the floor and the rug.
  • The surface of a new wool rug can be treated with a dirt-repellent product suitable for rugs or fabrics. When using it, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • We recommend preventing heavy soiling and moisture from reaching the rug by carefully choosing where it is used.

NB! A NEW RUG has a new rug smell! The smell comes from the water-based latex adhesive, harmless to health and suitable for living environments, used to fix the backing and yarns of a tufted rug.
The smell is temporary and will disappear; to speed this up, air out the rug and the room if necessary. Avoid exposing the rug to strong direct sunlight during this time.

To store a tufted rug, roll it up tightly. Avoid creases. Place the rug horizontally. Do not store heavy objects on top of the rug.

  • If stains get on the rug, act immediately – the later you act, the harder it is to remove the stain completely!
  • Dry stains should be gently scraped off the rug with a spoon or a knife. When cleaning, work from the edge of the stain toward the center.
  • Avoid excessive rubbing. Then remove the residue with a vacuum cleaner.
  • Liquid stains should be removed by blotting (absorbing) them with kitchen paper or a clean cloth. Avoid excessive rubbing. After removing the stain, dry the rug immediately.
  • If necessary, use carpet cleaning foam to remove the stain completely. First test it in a less visible area of the rug. Make sure the cleaning agent is thoroughly blotted out with water. Dry the rug thoroughly. You can also use a hair dryer or a fan for this, avoiding excessive direct heat on the rug surface.

Note! The observations and recommendations shared here for using and caring for rugs are based on current practices and personal experience.

Since it is impossible for us to determine later whether the correct recommendations have been followed, we cannot be held responsible for any damage (including color changes) that may have occurred to the rug as a result of improper use or inadequate care.
